Abstract
Neurodegenerative disorders cause significant personal and economical burden to the society. Biomarkers have application in the diagnosis (especially early detection), prognosis and monitoring disease progression as well as in the monitoring of clinical responses to a therapeutic intervention. Gene expression profiling is being extensively used to discover new biomarkers. We have performed systematic review of available genomic studies of selected neurodegenerative disorders to identify changes in gene expression consistent for a given disease. Additionally we performed comparison of gene expression changes among neurodegenerative disorders with the aim to identify potential biomarkers/metabolic pathways common to neurodegenerative pr ocess. By this approach we identified some potential biomarkers for neurodegenerative disorders. We are developing an integrative functional genomic platform to get a more detailed insight into the significance of expressional changes.
