Abstract

Bisatellited acrocentric chromosome as a part of normal karyotype is very rare. They are usually found to be an extra marker chromosome and may cause various abnormalities. Here we report a fetus having bisatellited chromosome 15 which is inherited from a normal mother. An amniocentesis was performed on a 27 years-old pregnant women because of increased risk in triple test. Fetal karyotype showed an unusual extra material at the terminal region of chromosome 15. This material was nor-positive and it was interpreted as a satellite. The proband's mother had a chromosome 15 carrying the same aberation and she was physically and mentally normal. In the literature no similar cases have been reported. Therefore the exact risk could not be predicted. Regarding the normal mother, parents were told that the baby had a small risk.
